July 16, 2024 | Broadcasters and newsrooms are increasingly implementing added security management, by requiring passwords for control access permissions, as well as internal audits.
In light of this, Viz Pilot Edge 3.1 is introducing Pilot Sign-on and user permissions for both Viz Pilot Edge and Template Builder.
Pilot Sign-on
Journalists and designers will now be required to sign in with a password to their Pilot Edge plugin. This enhancement will also filter based on user access, set by the administrator. Journalists will have access to the template interface, while Administrators and Designers can access both templates and Template Builder.
Role-based access control ensures that users only have access to the information and functionalities required for their job functions, reducing the risk of misuse or deletion.
Having a login also helps your IT team track user operations for audits and reports based on the roles and user ID, enhancing the overall security of your system. It also helps enforce accountability, as actions can be traced back to specific users. Furthermore, it streamlines the process of onboarding and offboarding employees, as permissions can be easily granted, changed, or revoked as needed.
The user credentials are verified using a central login provider. Additionally, for added security and as a prerequisite for the authentication feature, we have implemented support for OIDC (Open ID Connect) providers and native HTTPs in Viz Pilot Edge and its components.
(Pilot Sign-on is an optional feature and does not appear by default.)
Improving journalist workflow with search bar filter
Introducing quick search for Concepts and Tags. The search bar will filter as you type, which is useful when you need to quickly find a template but can’t remember the exact name of the concept or tag. Applies for templates as well as media search using Viz One tags.
Template developers and designers
Template Builder has been completely overhauled and rewritten in modern web technology, which speeds up the startup time and makes all the UI operations smoother and faster. This follows from the upgrade to Viz Pilot Edge 3, including undocking the preview window.
Environment variables
Pilot environment variables can add further flexibility to your system. These variables allow you to display elements or have dynamic URLs, all based on your variables or your system environment.
Among other things, this allows you to separate development and production environments without altering the custom HTML URLs of your templates. This is also useful for creating custom templates, panels, or hidden fields that aren’t meant to be changed by users. The Template Builder 3.1 User Guide provides more information on how to use environment variables.
HTML fragments
A quick and efficient way to customize layouts without hosting pages on an external URL. It is now possible to add inline HTML fragments to insert labels, images, custom layout etc. This can be done both in stacked and grid mode.
Additionally, designers can now also script clickable buttons in the templates.
Custom Execution Logic editor
Template Builder now natively supports Execution Logic, so you no longer have to switch to the legacy application and can work directly in Template Builder. Execution Logic is used whenever you want graphics/data elements based on the template to employ the same execution commands. You can then run a script without having Vizrt Director open to issue instructions or emulate button presses for each created data element.
