Viz Video Engine™

A flexible video server capable of dual channel ingest and playout

Viz Video Engine™ is a cost-effective solution that is easy to implement and still powerful enough to take care of all professional ingest and playout needs. By relying on conventional PC hardware and Windows as an operating system, Viz Video Engine integrates seamlessly into existing Vizrt installations without effecting the complexity and manageability of the system.

The Vizrt Video Server Solution

Viz Video Engine is a cost-effective and easy to install video server. Still the solution is powerful enough to take care of all professional ingest and playout needs.

By relying on conventional PC hardware and Windows as an operating system, Viz Video Engine integrates seamlessly into existing Vizrt installations without effecting the complexity and manageability of the system.

The setup

Viz Video Engine functions as a control software for the Matrox X.mio HD and SD multi-channel video and audio I/O cards. It is capable of dual channel HD/SD ingest and broadcast-quality dual channel playout.

In a typical environment Viz Video Engine will normally be used in combination with one of Vizrt’s Media Asset Management systems, either Viz Ardome or Viz Video Hub.

Viz Video Engine was developed to seamlessly integrate into the Vizrt product suite and to give extra flexibility to the video workflow. The ingest and playout application Viz Capture or the scheduling system Viz Dart can be used as a front-end to control the Viz Video Engine solution. Alternatively, any program that can take advantage of Viz Video Engine’s command line interface can be used as an optional front-end.

A wide variety of formats

Viz Video Engine supports multiple formats both in SD and HD quality. Supported SD formats are DV and MPEG-2 I-frame with 25 to 50 Mbits. IMX with 30 and 50 Mbits is also supported.

Supported HD formats are DV at 100 Mbits and MPEG-2 I-frame ranging from 50 to 200 Mbits. YUV 4:2:2 uncompressed is supported both in SD and HD.

Viz Video Engine also supports the Material eXchange Format (MXF). MXF is a container format that allows easy exchange of audio and video data.

Additionally, Viz Video Engine supports scrubbing, gapless (back-to-back) playout and ingest for all supported formats, and the Vertical Interval Time Code (VITC). VITC is supported both for ingest and playout, meaning that analog formats with slow tape speeds can now benefit from a higher accuracy than with linear timecode (LTC). This makes Viz Video Engine an extremely competitive and compact solution for all video server needs
